So you got your bees through winter, and that colony is now bursting with bees! Now you need to figure out what to do to next. We're here to help with our course all about the honeybee swarm drive, and how you can harness it to achieve your beekeeping goals.
This detailed course will explain how new hives are created. The bees have their own way of doing it, which is swarming; unfortunately this comes with the risk of losing over half your bees and/or terrifying your neighbours. The alternative is to harness the swarm drive through your interventions.
We'll teach you everything you need to know to understand swarming: why the bees swarm, what are the stages of swarming, the 'point of no return', and how to make the bees swarm drive work for you.
We'll also teach you all about making splits, which is one of the best ways to prevent swarming. We'll talk about different techniques, and when they are appropriate to use, and which techniques will work best with your approach to beekeeping. We'll even teach you how to prevent swarms without making splits.
This is a great class for beginners and intermediate beekeepers.
This class takes place at the Cotton Factory- 270 Sherman Ave N, Hamilton, ON.
